NF IMPORTERS Pty. Ltd.
A
member of THE FRASER MOTORCYCLES GROUP
HISTORY:
The
Fraser Motorcycles Group of Companies originated
in Newcastle, NSW, in 1955. The founder of the Company
was Norm Fraser, who had enjoyed many years of success
in short circuit racing prior to going into business.
For the first ten years, he operated from a shed
at the rear of his suburban house, originally as
a repairer, but then moving into sales of new and
used British motorcycles. As an agent for Bennett
& Wood, he began selling Honda motorcycles and the
expansion of this side of the business saw him move
into commercial premises in Lambton Road, Broadmeadow.
The
Company’s association with Ducati began in 1965
with the supply of two 250cc Mach I machines to
local Newcastle road-racing enthusiasts. From there,
the importing and distribution side of the business
grew rapidly and included the European marques of
Bultaco, Italject, Bimota and Cagiva.
In
1968, the Sydney branch was opened at Parramatta
Road, Strathfield, but the expansion of the business
within the motorcycle sales boom of the time resulted
in a move to larger premises at Homebush in 1978.
At this time, for logistical reasons, the Homebush
premises became the distribution centre for the
Company. Warren Fraser, who had carried on his father’s
tradition of successful involvement in motorcycle
sport - in his case, trials and motocross - took
up management of the head office and distribution
operations in 1983.
1984
saw the beginning of the association with Harley-Davidson
with the Fraser Group’s appointment as distributor
for NSW. Four years later, the store at Homebush
was modernised, creating a motorcycle shopping experience
never before seen in Australia. This avant-garde
store design, which incorporates an ultra-modern
service division, is also reflected in the Group
Branches in Perth, Wollongong and Newcastle.
The
Fraser Group continues to be a family-owned business
under the direction of Warren Fraser and his wife,
Catherine.
The
Fraser Group has continued their involvement in
motorcycle competitive sport and also sponsor privateer
and club riders in various motorcycle racing classes.
Almost all the staff ride motorcycles, with some
participating at competition level.
